Hi, my name is Karen and I am a client-centred Motivational Interviewing counsellor, trainer and supervisor.
I have spent my career working with people, supporting them through change in counselling, teaching new skills in training and developing best practice in supervision.
My professional route has resulted in qualifications in:
My areas of specialism include:
I have been running my own private practice for 30 years and have balanced it alongside part-time employment. It has always been essential for me to stay at grass-roots level and work directly one-to-one with individuals in their journeys towards change.
My professional employment includes:
My current part-time employment at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr, a Welsh secondary school in Cardiff, includes counselling young people aged 11 to 18, providing clinical supervision to pastoral teachers, training pupils in peer mentoring and counselling, and teaching the whole staff team at INSET.
My private practice offers counselling, supervision, training and consultancy to individuals and organisations.
I am fortunate to love the work I do. It is such a privilege to work alongside clients, to hear their stories, to value them and to help draw out their inner strengths, resilience and motivation.
My work with clients has always informed and improved my training work. Training has a different energy and I love the buzz of the group and the courage of the trainee to engage with the training process, reflect on their work, and develop their skills.
Supervision combines the value of the one-to-one work with the skills development and reflection, I appreciate the space to work with practitioners to improve their practice and ensure that clients are receiving high quality, ethical, compassionate relationships.
I am grateful to be able to balance my rewarding working life, with a wonderful family and active lifestyle in Cardiff.
